ATTRACTION OF LADAKH:SHANTI STUPA
Signifying universal peace and brotherhood, Shanti Stupa is located around 5km from the Leh city, and is one of the Peace Pagodas in the entire world. A white dome-shaped structure (or stupa), it was built in 1991 by a Buddhist monk from Japan as a part of the Peace Pagoda Mission.
In addition to the peace and serenity that exists around this stupa, visitors also find it a wonderful place to witness and enjoy the enchanting beauty of Leh and its magical mountains. Situated opposite to the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa is ornate with relics of Lord Buddha and images of the present day Dalai Lama. Visitors can also find the ‘Dharmachakra’ on the first level of this stupa along with inscriptions of Lord Buddha’s life and teachings. An ode to world peace and harmony, Shanti Stupa has now become of the highest visited tourist spots in Leh Ladakh.
